Polar Plunge, Another Cool Event

The sun was bright...the sky was clear...the ocean tranquil.  But, the air temperature was 23 degrees F and the water 43 degrees F as the dedicated supporters of our 5th Annual Rotary Polar Plunge hit the surf off the Asbury Park beach on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.  Rotarian Traudy Grande put together another successful event which raised money for Hurricane Sandy relief and Rotary Eye Rescue corneal transplants.

The results are in.  56 brave souls took the plunge and along with the generous sponsors helped raise $11,500.  Half the proceeds will go to The Presbyterian Church on the Hill in Ocean, NJ to help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in the Union Beach area on Monmouth County.  And, half the proceeds will go to Tissue Banks International to provide corneal transplants to poor people of underserved countries. We thank everyone involved in making this a sucessful event: the sponsors, the Rotarian volunteers and especially the courageous plungers.
