Scholarship Program

 

Introduction

This scholarship program is a vocational service activity of the Rotary Club of Asbury Park and seeks to assist and encourage high school seniors of Asbury Park, Neptune, Ocean Township and Academy Charter High Schools to pursue a post-secondary education with an emphasis on service to the community. The Rotary Club of Asbury Park expects to award up to one scholarship for each of the four high schools. Each selected student will be awarded a scholarship of up to $2000 payable in equal annual installments over the first 2 years of their specific post-secondary educational program. This scholarship is payable directly to the student to be used for books and other educational expenses.  $1000 payment will be made after the successful completion of the first semester and the final $1000 will be made after the successful completion of the third semester. Eligibility and awards will be decided by the Rotary Club of Asbury Park based on the applicant pool.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to be considered for a Rotary Club Scholarship Award the applicant must:
  1. Be a graduate or anticipate graduating from one of the four high schools noted above.
  2. Rank in the top 1/2 of the graduating class.
  3. Matriculate by October 1st of the application year at a college accredited by an agency recognized by the US Department of Education.
  4. In order to receive scholarship we must receive a transcript with the official college seal stating or providing evidence of successful completion of first and third semesters semester maintaining an average of 2.5 or better as a full time student.
  5. If an award winner transfers from his or her chosen institution the committee must be notified in writing to determine if guidelines are still being met.
  6. Completed applications must received by May 10, 2017
     
    Children, grandchildren of members of the Rotary Club of Asbury Park are ineligible.
 
 
Criteria for Selection
 
In awarding scholarships the Rotary Club of Asbury Park shall evaluate the applicants based on the following criteria:
  • Involvement in community service and commitment to making a difference
  • Demonstrated leadership in school and community activities
  • Character, integrity, initiative and other personal qualities
  • Academic GPA of 2.5 or higher
