Not only did we have the opportunity to meet and greet our scholarship winners, but Tom Hayes, Director of Community Relations, presented one of our winners, Jesus Reyes, with New Jersey Natural Gas’s scholarship award and then shared with us the involvement of New Jersey Natural Gas in our community. Focused on Monmouth, Ocean and Morris counties, NJNG provides volunteers to 50-60 nonprofit events; they collaborate with service organizations (such as Rotary) and conduct numerous employee-driven collection drives; they have a senior program, home ownership program in conjunction with Interfaith Neighbors, utility assistance program, and of course, programs that focus on education. In the area of education, their programs include: Project Venture, Achieve 3000, Literacy Programs, College Planning Workshops, Kids & Conservation, The Energy Hog, Ocean Fun Days, Speakers’ Bureau Presentations, and Come Visit Our Corporate Headquarters. NJNG is truly a stunning example of how a corporation can provide ‘service about self.’ We are blessed to live in their service area. Additional details of these programs are available on their website www.njng.com, or call Tom’s office 732.938.1035.
