Rose Haydu grew up in New Jersey near Asbury Park, and some of her happiest memories are those long-ago beach outings with her family. Growing up with three brothers taught her to enjoy a little competition, even over a board game... in a circle of people you love, it is never about the win, it is all about the game!

When her own children were growing up, Rose truly loved cooking for others, always ready with a meal for anybody in any time of need, happy or sad, and packing the cooler with snacks for soccer, baseball, field hockey... any game where she could cheer for her kids and their friends. Rose was married to her husband for 36 years, and as a widow, she holds those family memories even closer. Nowadays, on the nights when Rose isn’t heading back to the shore to hear her favorite bands with her own friends, she passes the joy of those magical family moments on to her three children and her 6 adorable grandkids, cherishing every small win and every minute together.

For more than 40 years in banking, Rose’s highlight was always the service she gave her customers, treating each of them like family. In her words: “That’s what life’s about. We’re all a big family. We all work together, love each other and enjoy each other’s company.”

Those same values brought Rose to Rotary. She joined to volunteer and help people, with a special place in her heart for children and the elderly. “Kindness goes a long way,” says Rose.

What she values most is the chance to volunteer alongside friends who care. Her Rotarian family keeps her included and reminds her that she matters and that her efforts count in this world. Her way of giving that feeling back is being there whenever her fellow Rotarians need her.

Rose’s message for anyone thinking about joining: the club is a fun group of people who enjoy helping others. Come get to know them, and discover how your friendship, kindness and contributions can make a difference too!
